Trinity Revisited

Cowboy Junkies

Album Cover Thumbnail Image for Cowboy Junkies 'Trinity Revisited'

Can't believe I've never included the Trinity Session album by the Cowboy Junkies on my blog before. That is one of the great albums of the 20th century. If you haven't heard it, get thee to it! To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album, the Junkies re-recorded the album in the same church with a few friends helping out. The new version gets you both a CD and a DVD of the performance. The music and re-interpretations of the songs are chill-inducing, especially if you know the original backwards and forwards. My sole complaint (which may diminish with time) is that lead vocalist Margo Timmins takes a back seat on too many of the songs. It is her voice that has been the foundation of these songs after all these years of REPEAT playing on CD players around the world. Because of that, it takes a bit of re-familiaring yourself with these songs when she's only singing backup or, worse even, just nodding her head slightly while someone sings these words that have become more incantations than lyrics.
