This collection of songs from Ugandan Geoffrey Oryema is like a beckoning call to visit the Africa of humanity's dreams. Simple, beautiful and unlike anything I've ever heard before, Exile's greatest gift is its greatest burden as well: Its allure invites — practically demands — repeated listenings that only cause you to become jaded all the quicker.
But don't go into this expecting primitive sounds of a long lost jungle people. This is sophisticated music in all the best ways, the kind that makes it all sound simple and easy, like you and I could have stumbled into the studio and crafted this in a day or two. Make no mistake though, my friend... The Muses are all over this. Highly recommended.
