The Machinist

Wednesday 01/19/2005 12:01 AM

Saw The Machinist this evening. The director, Brad Anderson, has done some really interesting films (in particular, the creepy horror flick Session 9 and the intimate drama Next Stop Wonderland).

Anyway, the movie was OK (great atmosphere and pretty interesting cinematography). If I tell you what it reminded me of, I'll give too much away. It was somewhat Lynchian — not enough to be completely whacked out symbolically, but probably too much for the average moviegoer. By the time you get to the end, it answers most — but not all — of the questions raised throughout the flick.

Don't doubt the people who said Christian Bale is the movie's greatest special effect with his holocaust-like weight loss. It made my skin crawl just to look at him most of the time.
