![]() A more realistic Garfield leads to surreality. File Under: Cartoon; Someone Else's Image |

If someone told me a week ago that by now I would have re-embraced the comic strip Garfield as a meditative commentary on life as we know it, I would have laughed in their face and probably spouted something like, "I haven't seriously read Garfield since I was 14, but, I must admit, it was pretty great then."
In my opinion, Garfield has gone the way of Beetle Bailey and Hagar the Horrible, in that I find myself asking, "Were these comics ever funny? To anyone?"
I've always been a Dilbert, The Far Side and Donnesbury type of guy. Of course, back in the day, Bloom County was pretty dope as well.
With no further ado, though, I bring you the latest meme to hit the etherspace. The original author (whose nom de plume is MackJ) says it best:
“I don't think I'm the only person to think this up, but I hypothesize that if you remove all the text of Garfield's speech, or thoughts, or whatever that is, that it become [sic] an oddly surrealist comic.”
I call it The Zen of Garfield. It is your link of the day and utterly brilliant.
