Rest In Peace, Mighty Crocodile Hunter. Loved worldwide, Steve Irwin died last Sunday, September 4th, 2006. This image is of a postcard that was anonymously submitted to PostSecret, one of the greatest web sites ever created. File Under: Death; PostSecret; Someone Else's Image; Whoa |
That's right, boys and girls: Florida got hit by an earthquake earlier today. Like we didn't have our hands full enough with hurricanes and dimpled chads.
According to the USGS, there was a 6.0 earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico this morning. I'd love to tell you that I was shaken awake, but it'll take a bit more than that to wake me. My mother once told me a story about when I was sleeping as a child many a moon ago, a car ran into our apartment and I slept through the whole thing. So a SIX POINT OH way off in the gulf isn't gonna do much to get me out of bed. Our neighbor says she felt it though.
Your Link of the Day gives you more juicy details about the earthquake.
Crikey. The Crocodile Hunter is no more.
I'm reminded of when Dale Earnhardt died. A friend of mine sent me an article (that I can't find right now — so much for information at our fingertips, huh?) that disputed the use of the term "accident" to describe what happened to #3. The author of the article argued that a better term to describe what happened to "The Intimidator" was an "inevitable." Unfortunately, the same argument might be applied to Steve Irwin.
Now just by bringing this up you might think I don't like the great khaki'd one from down under, but nothing could be further from the truth. I've oo'd and awe'd like the rest of you over the years. And I will truly miss him.
Did you know that Steve Irwin reportedly said that they should film his death if an animal ever ate him? The tape is in the hands of the authorities right now,b ut it remains to be seen if we'll ever have the opportunity to view it.
