JoePa On the Injured List

Friday 11/10/2006 3:51 AM

This news is a couple days old, but did you hear about Joe Paterno's injury in the Wisconsin game last weekend? Your image of the day is from the moment that his left knee got hyper-extended, resulting in torn ligaments and a broken shin bone.

That kind of injury would suck for anyone, but for a 79-year old guy, that's just brutal.

He's lucky it wasn't a direct hit. In the next couple of frames after your image of the day, you can see the helmet of the Wisconsin player go inside JoePa's left knee. A glancing blow. I think a direct hit would have completely snapped his leg off.

Your Link of the Day is to the press release explaining that due to his recovery from Sunday's surgery, JoePa has not been cleared to coach this Saturday, making it only the third game he's missed in his 56 years of coaching.

The highlight of the article is where he explains how his three coaches will make decisions without him around:

Paterno then instructed Tom Bradley to oversee the defense, Galen Hall the offense, and the special teams coaches to run their assigned areas. “If a game decision needs to be made beyond that, talk it out and if you can’t agree, Tom will be the tie-breaker, because he has been around the longest,” Paterno said.

Over and out.
