A Herd of Manatee, and “What's that smell?”

Monday 05/10/2010 2:50 PM

When we were coming back down the river, we were lucky enough to come across some more manatee. Richard and I started discussing what you might call a group of manatee. We agreed that “pod” seemed best, but I pointed out that since they were also known as sea cows maybe we should call them a herd. Imagine my surprise when I checked today and discovered that the proper term is, in fact, herd. Proof can be found at your Link of the Day.

As the herd was passed us, heading towards a small cove, I saw an explosion of bubbles near the backside of one of the larger ones and thought it couldn't be what it looked like, but less than a minute later Richard and I were smelling the proof. Yes, it was a manatee fart.

Richard said, “Someone needs to balance out their diet.”
