An Interesting Porridge

Wednesday 07/20/2005 11:16 AM

Made my first batch of Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal this morning. The verdict: Pretty good.

This is definitely nowhere near an instant meal. After almost 30 minutes on the stove, it was still chewy enough to make me wonder if it needed to cook some more. My skim milk is on the cusp of tolerability (expiration July 19), so instead I used up the last of my Half & Half (no Kahlua and cream for me tonite). I also added some brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon and a dab of vanilla extract.

I'll tell you more as I experiment further with the Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal.

Your Link of the Day is to an article my friend Ron sent me. It talks about this fascinating new grain I've discovered.
