Various stages of the manure being prepared for the tuber. (2006) File Under: I Took This Photo!; Lotus Flower; Panasonic DMC-LX1K Lumix Digital Camera |
So I poured three bags of the composted manure into the tub. Started wetting it with the hose and turning it over with one of my hand spades. Didn't take long for my carpal tunnelized wrists to start complaining, though, and I quickly figured out that I needed some bigger and better hardware. A square shovel and a pitchfork became my saviors for the afternoon.
After a few turns around the tub with the pitchfork (and occasional sprays from the hose), the composted manure was looking, well, like uncomposted manure. Slapped the dark, rich "soil" with the shovel until it was all pretty flat, and, at last, I was ready to plant to plant the tuber.
