What I call the Iron Worker Memorial in Anchorage, Alaska. Near Cook Inlet. (2007) File Under: Alaska; Anchorage; I Took This Photo!; Panasonic DMC-LX1K Lumix Digital Camera; Travel |
I don't know if there is an official name for this place, but it's on the walking/running/jogging trail that goes along the shore of Cook Inlet in Anchorage. If you are trying to find it, look for the Inlet Tower Hotel and then head to the shore from there. I think you need to go over (west? southwest?) a block or two so you can approach the inlet on Fifteenth Street.
My family is from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and my dad's side of the family lives smack dab in the middle of iron ore mining country. As a child, I heard many a story about goings on at the mines. No wonder then that I felt a stir of familiarity when I happened upon what I'm calling the Iron Worker Memorial of Anchorage, Alaska.
Next, I'm posting the two plaques that you'll find there.
